Learning to Learn
To empower pupils to take control and responsibility for their own learning, we deliver a range of assemblies which aim to develop their understanding of how they learn.
Pupils in EYFS and KS1 learn about the importance of a ‘Growth Mindset’. They learn that their brain is a muscle, that mistakes can be good and the incredible power of ‘Yet’. We use the high quality resources from Class Dojo to support our teaching. You can access these resources (including some fun videos) here.
In KS2, pupils learn how their memory works. Following an introductory assembly, pupils have a session on each memory type: sensory memory, short-term (working) memory and long-term memory. They come away from these sessions knowing what they can do to develop each type of memory. They have strategies to help them ensure that all the important things they learn in school make their way into their long-term memory.
